Exciting opportunity for Commercial Support Specialists to work on exclusive defence projects in Canberra. This role must be performed on a contract basis and sits on Level 2 of the DSS panel.

By taking up this opportunity, you will immerse yourself within the Defence Capability Acquisition and Sustainment Group (CASG), growing connections with leading ADF experts. The role will be working within one of the five Directorate Functions (Air, Land, Joint, Submarines or Ships) of Materiel Procurement Branch, CASG. You will be allowed to showcase your commercial and procurement expertise. This may include providing advice and assistance to stakeholders as well as delivering end-to-end procurement services.


  • Seeking a highly skilled, resilient, and dedicated professional committed to enabling the Department to deliver outcomes through the provision of high-quality procurement work and advice.
  • Must be able to provide guidance to clients undertaking procurement and contracting activities.
  • Undertake or provide direct support to procurement planning, contract formation, and contract management activities while ensuring compliance with legislation and Defence procurement policies, processes and procedures.
  • Provide commercial advice and support of procurements, and contract deliverables.
  • Advise on commercial issues such as liability, risk assessments, warranties and insurance requirements.
  • Undertake tender preparation, tender evaluation and contract negotiation activities across a diverse range of contracts including drafting related documentation; provide complex contract management advice to projects; and prepare high-level correspondence, reports, submissions and other documents as required.


  • Australian Citizenship with a minimum Negative Vetting 1 (NV1) Security Clearance.
  • Must have demonstrated and understanding and/or experience in the identification and mitigation of procurement risks, preparation of procurement advice, sourcing/tender development, probity, evaluation and contract management.
  • Experience in broad commercial acumen, in particular sourcing, quotations, orders, supplier engagement and delivery management.
  • Ability to apply procurement practices in a Defence supply chain environment.


  • Defence experience, or knowledge of Defence processes.
  • A commercial awareness, highly developed interpersonal skills, the ability to work in a team and knowledge of Commonwealth procurement policies is highly valued.
  • Successful completion of Defence specific Commercial courses such as Contract Risk Modules and ASDEFCON Template user training.
