Procurement and Supply Officer - Defence Naval - Sydney

About the opportunity

The client are a well known company working predominantly within the repair, refit and maintenance of ships both within Australia and overseas. Due to extensions on their major projects with the CoA, my client are now seeking the services of a full time and permanent Procurement and Supply Officer to work out of their head office in Garden Island, Sydney.

Purpose of the position

Under the direct supervision of the ILS Manager, the Procurement/Supply Support Officer is responsible for the Supply Chain Activities inclusive of Procurement, Codification and Cataloguing of goods for accurate and timely input to the Supply Chain team.

Responsibilities & Duties

Provide purchasing and logistics assistance, inclusive of:

  • Provide procurement services (i.e. liaison with suppliers, request for quote, procurement order, order status management, etc. …),
  • Manage ship specific demands through LNIDS,
  • Perform codification and cataloguing activities,
  • Preparation of supplier's technical documentation for codification and cataloguing,
  • Communicates internally/externally concerning order status,
  • Comply with all relevant Work, Health and Safety policies and work practices with the intent of preventing or minimising accidental exposures to self, colleagues, visitors.
  • Proactively implement risk mitigation strategies.

Work Experience and Skills

  • Experience in Defence system (MILIS) required. Evidence of this may be requested.
  • Minimum 5 years relevant defence procurement, supply support experience.
  • Experience in project based environment preferred.
  • Ability to manage multiple, concurrent tasks, which have competing priorities.
  • A high level of interpersonal and communication skills, as well as the ability to work as part of a multi-disciplinary team.
  • Excellent communication and influencing skills including the ability to prepare written reports, briefings, updates and other documentation to internal and external stakeholders.
  • Proven experience working in a logistics support and maintenance environment, particularly in commercial ship repair, ideally in Defence, construction, oil and gas/resources or a related industry.
  • Proactively implement risk mitigation strategies.
  • Must be a competent user of Microsoft Office Suite of programs (Work, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook).
  • A high level of numeracy skills, attention to detail and superior analysis ability.
