We're partnering with a specialised engineering consultancy supporting some of Australia's most complex Defence and maritime programs to appoint a Senior Systems Engineer.

This role sits at the intersection of systems engineering, integration, and Defence capability delivery, offering the opportunity to influence high-impact programs while working alongside experienced engineers across multiple disciplines.

This is a senior-level systems engineering role where you'll play a key part in both technical integration and engineering governance.

You'll be responsible for ensuring complex systems are effectively defined, integrated, documented, and delivered while also providing engineering leadership, maintaining compliance, and supporting capability outcomes aligned to Defence frameworks.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead and coordinate systems integration activities with prime contractors, including data exchange and reporting
• Oversee design integration and configuration control across all lifecycle phases (design, verification & validation)
• Develop, manage and maintain the engineering documentation suite
• Provide formal engineering advice across product and contract activities
• Exercise engineering delegation, manage and maintain technical risks
• Review and provide feedback on engineering deliverables, ensuring alignment with capability outcomes
• Collaborate across multidisciplinary teams to support end-to-end system delivery
• Facilitate engineering workshops and coordinate technical activities
• Ensure compliance with QMS and Defence engineering processes
• Support and mentor team members, contributing to team capability uplift and professional development
• Build and maintain relationships with key stakeholders across Defence, CASG, industry partners, and end users

About You

You're a well-rounded, senior systems engineer who combines technical depth with leadership capability and thrives in complex, stakeholder-heavy Defence environments.

We're looking for:

• 8+ years' experience across systems engineering, systems integration, marine/naval engineering or complex platforms
• Experience working within Defence capability delivery environments
• Strong understanding of engineering lifecycle, integration, and verification frameworks
• Proven ability to manage technical risk, documentation, and engineering governance
• Experience engaging with cross-functional teams and senior stakeholders
• Excellent communication skills, with the ability to influence and provide clear technical advice
• Ability to operate autonomously while contributing to broader program outcomes

Highly Regarded

• Familiarity with ASDEFCON frameworks
• Background in CASG or Defence capability acquisition/sustainment programs
• Understanding of Defence policy, legislation, and capability delivery environments
• Chartered status (or working towards) with a recognised engineering body (e.g. Engineers Australia)

• Must be an Australian Citizen
• Eligible to obtain and maintain NV1 (or higher) Security Clearance
