Expression of Interest - Data Architect

Overview

We are seeking an experienced Data Architect to support a major data cleansing, migration and uplift programme within a Federal Government department. This role will play a key part in modernising data assets, improving data quality and accessibility, and enabling future enterprise analytics, reporting and digital transformation initiatives.

The successful candidate will lead the design and governance of data architecture across legacy-to-cloud migrations, ensuring alignment with enterprise standards, security frameworks and government data policies.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain the enterprise data architecture to support large-scale data cleansing, migration, and uplift activities.
  • Lead the data migration strategy from legacy systems to modern platforms (cloud/on-prem hybrid).
  • Design logical and physical data models, including data dictionaries, metadata mappings and canonical models.
  • Establish data governance frameworks, standards and best practice for data quality, lineage and security.
  • Collaborate with business stakeholders, SMEs and programme leads to define data requirements and architecture roadmaps.
  • Oversee the design of ETL/ELT processes and data integration patterns.
  • Support data quality improvement initiatives, including profiling, cleansing and enrichment.
  • Ensure data solutions comply with federal information security policies, privacy legislation and APS data standards.
  • Provide architecture guidance across delivery teams, including data engineers, analysts and project managers.

Skills & Experience

Essential

  • Proven experience as a Data Architect in complex enterprise environments.
  • Demonstrated background in data migration and data quality uplift programmes.
  • Strong experience with data modelling (Conceptual, Logical, Physical) and metadata management.
  • Hands-on understanding of cloud-based data platforms (AWS, Azure or GCP).
  • Experience with ETL/ELT pipelines and data integration tools.
  • Familiarity with data governance frameworks (e.g. DAMA, DCAM).
  • Ability to translate business needs into fit-for-purpose data architecture solutions.
  • Excellent stakeholder management skills across technical and non-technical
