FAQ

How long will the recruitment process take?

The full recruitment cycle (particularly in Defence) can run anywhere from weeks to months, depending on the role and company we are working with; but we aim to keep it as short as possible.

Once I apply for a role, how long will it take to hear back?

You’ll always get a confirmation email once your application has been received. If you don’t get this, get in touch as something has probably gone wrong. Generally, you’ll hear from us within 3-5 business days, with either a phone call to discuss your experience or an email letting you know you were unsuccessful.

Will I get feedback on my application?

Wherever possible, we’ll provide detail on why an application wasn’t successful, but sometimes it’s as simple as not having the required security clearance, citizenship status, platform experience, or not having one of the “non-negotiable” skills our client needs.

Unfortunately, when there’s a high volume of applications for a position, it’s not always possible to give specific and personal feedback to all applicants.

How long does it take to find someone for a role?

We have a community and database of specialised job-seekers, but every job is different depending on the skill set needed, the complexity of the role, location, clearance level, and market demand for all of the above. It can take us anywhere from one day to a few weeks to source someone we are proud to put forward for an opening.

Should I come directly to you, or should I apply for a job on your website?

Either way is fine by us. We do find that our consultants can get a better idea of your skills and experience if you apply for a specific role via our website, as this means they have your resumé on hand straight away.

What happens to my resumé and information once I share it?

Once we receive your resumé, one of our operations team will create a profile for you, highlighting your skills, industry background, and experiences.

Your profile and resumé are then shared with the appropriate team or consultant so they can take a thorough look and get in touch if appropriate.

We respect your privacy. Please refer to our privacy statement for how we protect your information on file.

If you do not wish for us to hold your details anymore, simply let us know by contacting us at privacyofficer@kinexus.com.au , and we’ll see to it immediately.

If you request for your details to be removed from our database, we totally respect that and we will do it immediately.

Will I be assigned a consultant to work with exclusively?

Generally, no. We work across a few sectors and have over 20 consultants whose expertise differentiates between sectors, states and employment type (Contract vs Permanent).

To make sure you hear about all the different opportunities we have available, you may hear from more than one of our consultants and talent managers.

I don’t know where to start, what’s my best first step?

Your first step if you are thinking about a career change is to take some time to think. Get clear on the type of role you want, the strengths you bring, and how the change will affect you (or your family).

Then we can get down to the practical stuff:

  1. Head to our resuméand cover letter eBook to get started putting it all on paper.

  2. Connect with some of our consultants by dropping them a line, or shoot them a message on LinkedIn.

  3. Check out our advertised roles.

  4. Jump in and apply or pick up the phone and chat to us about your next best steps.

I need help hiring someone. What should I do?

We have a few people that can help you out, but this is probably the best place to start:

NSW, ACT, QLD & NT:  Simon Blake
VIC, SA, WA & TAS: Amelia De Angelis

If you don’t know where you fit, give our customer service team a call, and we’ll point you in the right direction.

I’m thinking of moving into a contracting role. What do I need to know?

First, do your research – we have a contracting guide that will help, and you can also have a read of our blog on the different payment types that employers offer.

Give us a call, or head over to our team page and check out our contractor consultants directly. They can walk you through the process from a practical perspective, and let you know all about the contracting opportunities they have available.

Why would I go to a Kinexus consultant instead of applying directly to companies?

Why wouldn’t you want to work with such a talented bunch of people? Here are the top 5 reasons to work with us:

  1. Access to more interesting jobs, including ones that aren’t advertised.

  2. We know the companies, the people, and the culture and can help guide you to ones who will fit you or even create a position for you. We engage directly with company decision makers on your behalf and use our credibility to vouch for you.

  3. Career counselling and guidance around your skillset from a team that understands your experience first-hand.

  4. Realistic insights on what’s happening across the industry, and how it will affect your work now and in the future.

  5. We save you a whole lot of time and a whole bunch of headaches. You don’t have to get lost in job boards or tailor loads of cover letters, or ruin your commute to work by checking the Seek app every morning.

Do you have a resumé writing service?

Not currently, no. We will advise you on the best practice for specific jobs and submissions, but as a starting point, we recommend everyone have a read of our free resumé guidebook, which will make it nice and easy.

Are Kinexus and Kinetic Recruitment the same company?

Yes, we were originally known as Kinetic Recruitment. We re-branded in 2016 and became Kinexus. If you want to get fancy about it, our official names are:

Registered Name: Kinetic Defence Services Pty Ltd.
Trading as: Kinexus People
Known as: Kinexus

We’re also not to be mistaken for Kinetic IT or Qinetiq (with a Q) - both different companies.

What is an RFQ?

A request for tender (RFQ) is a bid from Defence for skilled workers. The government has to put it out to tender to ensure they’ve delivered value for money to taxpayers, viability and skills before they are given the go-ahead on a project.

If the RFQ is successful, it will lead to a job, but it’s important to understand there can be competing parties for the same body of work.

What if I no longer want to be on the Kinexus database?

If you want your details and resumé removed from our database and marketing communications, just let us know. Give us a call on 02 9492 7520 or email privacy@kinexus.com.au, and we will arrange that instantly.
