Contract Lead

Simon Blake

Job Title: Contract Lead

Team: Management

One thing you bring to your role:

Understanding and perspective. I interact with many different people internally and externally. Applying understanding and perspective in most situations will usually get the right outcome for all.

What one skill should all Managers have?

Patience.  As a manager, you are put in many different situations with many different people and personalities.  You need the ability to demonstrate patience in all these situations, to listen, understand information, help people feel valued, heard and remain positive.  And all despite the fact that you may have 101 things to do or how you may be feeling yourself.

What question do you always ask a candidate?

"If you were in my shoes, what doubts should I have about you?"

It’s often the last question I will ask.  I find this changes the way a candidate needs to think and encourages them to think differently to the rest of the interview.  An interview is often focussed on positives and what the candidate can bring to a role (as well as what we as a business can provide for them). This gets the candidate to think about what they might not be so good at or may struggle with.  And hopefully they are self-aware enough to answer appropriately, but then also to suggest a solution.

What could you give a 40-minute presentation on with absolutely no preparation?

The life and times of Tupac Amaru Shakur.
