Job Title: Recruitment Consultant

Team: Defence & Federal Government - ICT

Year joined Kinexus: 2024

What do you actually do?

I support companies that have won work in the defence industry to effectively recruit and retain ICT specialists with defence experience or security clearances. Most of my role is speaking with people who are looking for work, who have unique experiences and skills and trying to match them to businesses and projects that need them.

What kinds of skill sets do you work across?

I manage the permanent ICT recruitment desk at Kinexus, meaning most of the work I handle is in ICT infrastructure and networks, cyber security and software development. The work and projects that I support all sit within the defence industry or require clearances ranging from NV1 to TSPV.

What's one thing you care about getting right for the people you work with?

Good recruitment isn’t just filling a vacancy, it’s making sure that you fill that vacancy with someone who will stay and grow with that business. That means making sure that a business and candidate are both aligned in their motivations, not just matching a job description and a CV.

Why do you do what you do?

A good job can be lifechanging. Most people spend a third of their day, 5 days per week at work. So helping someone make a move away from a crappy job to one where they don’t feel dread on a Sunday evening makes it worth it to me.

Something people might not know?

Outside of work, I am a typical Eastern Suburbs Sydney pom. I love football, I have a short, back and sides, I work in recruitment, and I have zero ability to handle spice.
