Job Title: Account Manager

Industry: Defence & Federal Government - ICT

Year joined Kinexus: 2022

What do you actually do?

I recruit and place contractors with the highest level of security clearance (TSPV) into intelligence agencies in Australia and other Defence areas. I manage the full recruitment life cycle and support the contractor and the agency throughout the contract.

What do your clients, candidates and colleagues rely on you for?

For clients, job descriptions are often broad and limited in detail, given the nature of the work (PV). My clients rely on my understanding of their environments and the cleared market to identify the right technical specialists. I understand the skills and types of backgrounds that people need.

For candidates, I provide honest advice about career options, help them understand their SFIA level, align their experience with the right opportunities, and set realistic expectations about roles and the lengthy recruitment timelines. My roles often take 6–12 months before we see a contract, given the required psych testing. I support candidates throughout the entire journey.

Why do you do what you do?

The roles I recruit are generally behind-the-scenes work supporting our national security and cyber capabilities, which is incredibly important, and it's rewarding to know that the people I place are contributing to that.

One of my favourite parts of the job is calling someone to tell them they got the role, or checking in with them the day before or on the first day of their new job. It's an exciting moment for them, and I feel lucky to play a small part in helping someone start an important new chapter in their career.

Something people might not know?

Outside of work, I enjoy travelling, getting out to our family farm in the country, camping, and exploring our beautiful country. To top it off, I appreciate a good steak and a nice glass of wine.
