What are the biggest challenges of Defence Industry?
A shortage of skilled, available candidates. Defence sector clients that I work with are all experiencing the same problems with regards to candidates and it is my role to help provide them with solutions.
In your opinion, what would make a candidate stand out?
The ability to communicate effectively. Candidates who have the right background and who are able to communicate both up and down the chain of command are great to work with. It is very important to have the ability to liaise with various stakeholders within defence and not simply be a ‘bum in seat’ engineer. In my opinion, this really helps you stand out in today’s market.
What hobby would you get into if time and money weren’t an issue?
Surfing. I’m in the early stages of becoming a professional surfer, so watch this space.
