Data consultant- 6 Months contract
Our client is supporting a major initiative to consolidate multiple innovation and asymmetry datasets into a single, secure, and scalable data repository. This capability will reduce duplication, expose synergies, enhance analytical insights, and support faster, more informed decision-making.
Key Responsibilities
- Architecture & Design
- Develop backend architecture, canonical data model, metadata/taxonomy structures, ingestion patterns
- Design role-based front-end views for capability planners, analysts, program leads, wargamers, and experimenters.
- Define security controls, access restrictions, and local authentication mechanisms.
- Produce Architecture Packs, Data Models and Integration Plans.
- Full Stack Development
- Build the secure data repository, including APIs, search and indexing functions, lineage and auditing capabilities, and data versioning.
- Implement ingestion pipelines for multiple Defence-approved sources (spreadsheets, databases, SharePoint, wargaming outputs).
- Deliver interactive dashboards, UX wireframes, and visualisation prototypes tailored to each user group.
- Testing & Quality Assurance
- Conduct iterative user testing (multiple review cycles) throughout MVP build.
- Ensure the product meets availability, performance, scalability, maintainability, observability, accessibility, and usability requirements.
- Apply Defence-aligned security hardening.
- Documentation & Training
- Produce all required documentation, including user guides, training materials, architecture documentation, and operational handover packs.
- Deliver training workshops to key stakeholders and end-users.
- Project Management & Transition
- Use an agile methodology (continuous discovery, parallel design, iterative validation).
- Manage project milestones, stakeholder engagement, and handover into operational use.
- Support transition of the MVP into the environment.
Required Skills & Experience
- Extensive full-stack engineering experience across backend, frontend, and database design.
- Strong knowledge of data modelling, metadata management, and ingestion patterns.
- Experience delivering secure solutions in government or Defence environments.
- Proven ability to develop visualisation interfaces and user-dependent dashboards.
- Experience building governed APIs and search/indexing frameworks.
- Familiarity with data lineage, auditing, versioning, and retention controls.
- Strong stakeholder engagement and agile delivery experience.
- Excellent documentation and communication skills.
- NV1 Security Clearance or Above
Desirable Experience
- Exposure to wargaming, experimentation or capability development environments.
- Experience integrating disparate datasets across large organisations.
- Understanding of Defence security requirements and accreditation processes.
