ICT Network Security Firewall Specialist - RFQ-ASD-45-2023 - SOW 1 - Rereleased

Due to the nature of clients we work with here at Kinexus and the projects these roles will be based on, an Australian Government Top Secret Positive Vetting (TSPV) clearance is essential.

These opportunities do not have the ability to obtain sponsorship for a security clearance (including applicants who currently hold a security clearance seeking to upgrade).


Gateway Services Section within the Enterprise Technology Division of the Australian Signals Directorate (ASD) has a requirement for Network Engineers to assist in the development, delivery, sustainment and remediation of Enterprise Cross Domain and Network Firewall capabilities.

The candidate must be an organised and outcomes orientated individual with good communication skills, confident in prosecuting a number of technical undertakings and work packages from concept to delivery.

The candidate will undertake planning and implementation of capability through functions including; high and detailed design, implementation, testing, trouble shooting, evaluation & remediation, and transition to operations.

The candidate also assist with uplifting the maturity of capability governance within the section.

The Specified Person will be expected to demonstrate attributes of SFIA Level of Responsibility four (4).

Current Top-Secret Positive Vetting (TSPV) security clearance is strongly preferred, however candidates who have held a TSPV in the previous 12-month period (which has since been downgraded) may be considered.

  • Provide first and second-level operational support across the firewall infrastructure in line with ITIL processes, including:
  • The management of firewall policies and configuration to support permitted network traffic through firewall devices.
  • Troubleshooting network connectivity issues.
  • Perform firewall remediation activities including:
  • Developing design and architecture proposals.
  • Reviewing and refining security policies.
  • Configuring new devices, and leading change activities. Undertakeing all remediation activities are coordinated with the Networking team and other stakeholder.
  • Provide assistance in the support and management of firewall monitoring systems.
  • Perform an IT Security Officer role including:
  • Implement and monitor information security requirements, policies, and compliance.
  • Document and communicate policies, queries, vulnerabilities, and current state of the system.
  • Oversee training, policies, and practices, including audits, to ensure systems are security operated.


  • Experience in the successful delivery of ICT outcomes preferably within an Enterprise.
  • Australian Citizenship and a TSPV security clearance is essential.
