RFQ-ASD-LH-04655 Network Engineer

Due to the nature of clients we work with here at Kinexus and the projects these roles will be based on, an Australian Government Top Secret Positive Vetting (TSPV) clearance is essential.

These opportunities do not have the ability to obtain sponsorship for a security clearance (including applicants who currently hold a security clearance seeking to upgrade).

ABOUT THIS ROLE

ASD is looking for APS 6 equivalent Network Engineers with NV2 and TSPV security clearance only.

Network Engineers perform and achieve network design and network planning work.

Estimated start date: Monday, 01 December 2025

Initial contract duration: 12 months

Extension term: 12 months

Number of extensions: 2

Location of work: QLD, ACT, VIC

Working arrangements: Onsite. Working arrangements will be at the discretion of the assigned work area, subject to operational needs. Due to the nature of ASD's operations, not all work areas can accommodate flexible working arrangements. Candidates must be willing to undergo ASD's Organisational Suitability Assessment (OSA) prior to engagement.

JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Accountable to contribute to the investigation, diagnosis and resolution of network problems and provide advice on preventative strategies.
  • Responsible to ensure all requests for support are dealt with a manage any outstanding problems with Defence and organisation standards, policies and procedures.
  • Use experience to design and implement network changes and maintenance routines.
  • Apply knowledge to explain and capitalise on the capabilities of current Defence and industry date, voice and audio networking devices and procedures.
  • Investigate and resolve network problems, identifying alternative courses of action and/or mitigation strategies.
  • Conduct other networking engineering related tasks within the scope of the stated APS level, as required by the business area.

TECHNICAL SKILLS

  • Diploma or Degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Information Technology or related fields
  • Experience in network security including enterprise proxy and load balancing systems and experience with different systems and architectures
  • Experience deploying network systems

SKILLS & EXPERIENCE NEEDED

  • Systems Desgn (DESN) level 4 Designs system components using appropriate modelling techniques following agreed architectures, design standards, patterns and methodologies. Identifies and evaluates alternative design options and trade-offs. Creates multiple design views to address the concerns of the different stakeholders and to handle functional and non-functional requirements. Models, simulates or prototypes the behaviour of proposed system components to enable approval by stakeholders. Produces detailed design specifications to form the basis for the construction of systems. Reviews, verifies and improves own designs against specifications.
  • Infrastructure Operations (ITOP) level 4 Applies technical expertise to maintain and optimise technology infrastructure, executing updates and employing automation tools. Configures tools and/or creates scripts to automate infrastructure tasks. Maintains operational procedures and checks that they are followed, including adherence to security policies. Uses infrastructure management tools to monitor load, performance and security metrics.
  • Network Support (NTAS) level 4 Applies technical expertise to maintain and optimise network infrastructure, executing updates and employing automation tools. Uses network management tools to monitor load, performance, and security statistics. Investigates and enables the resolution of network-related operational and security issues. Configures tools and/or creates scripts to automate network tasks. Maintains operational procedures and check that they are followed. Provides reports and proposals for improvements to stakeholders. Contributes to the planning and implementation of network maintenance, updates and security enhancements. Implements agreed network changes and maintenance routines.
  • Network Design (NTDS) level 4 Designs specific network components using agreed architectures, design standards, patterns and methodology. Translates logical designs into physical designs that meet specified operational parameters for capacity and performance. Reviews and verifies network designs again non-functional requirements, including validation and error correction procedures, access, security and audit controls. Contributes to the development of recovery routines and contingency procedures. Contributes to alternative network architectures, networking topologies and design options.
  • Australian Citizenship and a TSPV security clearance is essential
