Due to the nature of clients we work with here at Kinexus and the projects these roles will be based on, an Australian Government Top Secret Positive Vetting (TSPV) clearance is essential.

These opportunities do not have the ability to obtain sponsorship for a security clearance (including applicants who currently hold a security clearance seeking to upgrade).

ABOUT THIS ROLE

The Database Administrator will be accountable for the administration of a range of databases of varying technologies. The Database Administrator will plan, organise, integrate, deliver and sustain complex databases under broad direction and will maintain productive working relationships.

This role requires strong Database and coding knowledge in a Linux enterprise environment to automate system administrative tasks to enable efficiency and to provide Level 2 & 3 support for relational database such as Oracle and MongoDB.

Working arrangements: Onsite. Candidates must be willing to undergo ASD's Organisational Suitability Assessment (OSA) prior to engagement. Candidates required to have PV clearance.

JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Operating system: Linux (shell scripting, crontab)
  • Database: simple PL/SQL, creating and managing pluggable databases, auditing, scheduler. Patching
  • Data Guard set up
  • Oracle database trouble shooting
  • Backup/restore: Flashback and restore points, Commvault management
  • Security: account creation and privileges management, wallet/key creation and administration
  • Understanding of Oracle Exadata architecture and feature
  • EMCC: setting jobs
  • Desirable to be proficient in APEX, Golden Gate, Dataguard (for Oracle), in MongoDB administration including Ops Manager (for MongoDB) and desirable to be able to program in one or more of Java/Python/Perl
TECHNICAL SKILLS
  • Setting up new instances of Dataguard, creating new PDBs for Oracle, or setting up new shards for MongoDB (including Ops Manager)
  • Following SOPs and to be able to trouble shoot sops
  • Debug errors via looking at alert logs, system logs, identify and fix errors as they arise.
  • See the opportunities for efficiency so that we are able to increase the number of databases and systems we look after with fewer people
  • Programming skills desirable.
  • Linux administration and general shell command
SKILLS & EXPERIENCE NEEDED

Essential criteria

  • Applies technical expertise to maintain and optimise databases, executing updates and employing automation tools.Configures tools and/or creates scripts to automate database tasks. Maintains operational procedures and checks that they are followed, including compliance with security policies. Uses database management tools to monitor load and performance statistics.Investigates and enables the resolution of database operational and security issues. Provides reports and proposals for improvement to stakeholders.Contributes to the planning and implementation of database maintenance and updates. Implements agreed database changes and maintenance routines.
  • Monitors system software metrics and adjusts configurations for optimum availability and performance. Applies technical expertise to investigates and resolve complex system software issues, requesting action from supplier if required. Analyses system software updates and determines which ones require actions. Develops comprehensive software implementation procedures with robust contingency plans.
  • Interprets installation standards to meet project needs and produces database or data warehouse component specifications. Develops physical database or data warehouse design elements, within set policies, to meet data requirements.
  • Designs, codes, verifies, tests, documents, amends and refactors simple programs/scripts. Applies agreed standards, tools and basic security practices to achieve a well-engineered result. Reviews own work.
  • Australian Citizenship and a TSPV security clearance is essential
