Position Title : Systems Engineer
Location : Adelaide, South Australia
Special Conditions : The candidate must be eligible for Australian Defence Security Clearance to NV1

Primary Responsibility

The Systems Engineer works independently or within a team performing technical planning, system integration and verification and validation activities. The Systems Engineer is responsible for analysis of the total system product including concept, design, fabrication, test, installation and documentation. The primary system products developed are Electronic Warfare Systems and Sonar Systems for Defence customers.

Specific duties include:

  • Understand and analyse customer needs in order to derive clear requirements;
  • Architect the technical solution from requirements analysis;
  • Manage the design and development activities through the System Definition, Preliminary Design, Detailed Design and System Verification phases;
  • Manage, direct and review the work undertaken by the engineering teams to achieve the required system functionality;
  • Ensure the project team adheres to Ultra's standard engineering tools and processes during all development and test phases including, hardware and software configuration management systems, software build processes, coding standards and debuggers,;
  • Prepare and deliver contract technical data including design review material, test procedures and test reports;
  • Manage the projects technical scope and engineering activities to deliver the project on time and within the project cost baseline;
  • Monitor and manage project technical risks, developing appropriate mitigation strategies to meet project delivery requirements;
  • Develop functional and performance specifications;
  • Perform Systems Architecture Design and System Verification;
  • Contribute to the development of engineering processes and procedures for the organisation;
  • Assist with internal peer reviews and design review;
  • Supervise lower level hardware and software development activities; and
  • Participate in Health, Safety & Environment (HSE) activities to maintain a safe and clean work environment

    Experience/Knowledge:
  • Demonstrated experience in Systems Engineering processes preferably in a Defence environment;
  • Demonstrated experience in leading a multi-disciplined engineering team to deliver quality outcomes on-time and within cost constraints;
  • Demonstrated technical experience in:
    o embedded real-time systems;
    o RF/Communications Receiver Systems;
    o Signal Processing techniques and preferably Software Defined Radio systems;
    o Familiarity with Linux and Windows operating systems; and
    o SDLC software development methodologies
    Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's Degree in Electronics or Systems Engineering or Computer Science (or equivalent);
  • At least 10 years' experience and at least 5 years' experience as the Systems Engineer on a project involving embedded software design and development; and
  • Substantial familiarity with the processes and governance requirements in developing product for the Australian Defence Organisation
