• Systems Engineer

  About the Role

  The Systems Engineer role focuses on providing systems engineering support across the assessment, design, acquisition, implementation, and sustainment of mission and support systems. This position works closely with engineering leadership and stakeholders to ensure system integrity, performance, and compliance throughout the system lifecycle.

  Key Responsibilities

  • Perform systems engineering activities including requirements analysis and traceability, system design, analysis, verification, and validation.
  • Lead and deliver engineering changes in line with approved engineering management frameworks and plans (e.g. engineering change proposals, deviations).
  • Conduct technical risk assessments and implement mitigation strategies associated with system changes.
  • Develop and update system and design documentation in accordance with approved changes.
  • Fault find, support, and implement ICT systems and applications that underpin infrastructure, processes, and operations.
  • Support and maintain an understanding of IT infrastructure including servers, networks, applications, software, and security controls.
  • Undertake additional engineering tasks as directed by senior engineering leadership.

  Essential Skills and Experience

  • Tertiary qualification in Engineering or a related discipline.
  • Ability to achieve Chartered Professional Engineer Status with Engineers Australia (or equivalent).
  • Demonstrated experience working as a Systems Engineer within Defence or a comparable regulated industry.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to explain complex technical concepts to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Proven ability to analyse complex problems, identify root causes, and develop practical, effective solutions.
  • Experience negotiating with and influencing stakeholders to maintain system integrity and alignment.
  • A continuous improvement mindset with the ability to identify and implement process enhancements.
  • Australian citizenship with an active (or previously held) Australian Government Security Clearance (NV1 or higher).
  • Eligibility to access information controlled under ITAR regulations.

  Desirable Experience and Attributes

  • Five or more years' experience as a Systems Engineer, preferably within Defence or a similar environment.
  • Strong background or interest in ICT infrastructure.
  • Broad technical understanding of communications systems, ICT architectures, infrastructure, and associated processes.
  • Experience working with satellite communications, ICT, or communications systems in a sustainment environment.
  • Experience developing ASDEFCON Sustainment documentation.
